The tabby cat appeared to be completely overwhelmed by what had happened to his companion, another female cat who was lying motionless on the road. The exact cause of her death was never confirmed, although the circumstances suggested that she may have been struck by a vehicle.
But instead of simply walking away, the surviving cat stayed beside her.
At first, witnesses reportedly saw him trying desperately to revive her. He appeared unable to understand that she was already gone, repeatedly attempting to move her and refusing to accept that nothing he did could bring her back.
