It is deeply sad that some animals are abandoned and left to fend for themselves. It’s heartbreaking, but some people have hearts as hard as stone and are capable of throwing their pets onto the streets—pets who once filled their homes with love and joy.
Having an animal at home is a responsibility. They are living beings who deserve respect, care, and a great deal of love.
But not everyone understands this. Sadly, that is exactly what happened to Wilson, a noble, elderly blind cat with feline immunodeficiency syndrome who was abandoned on the street.
Wilson’s life is marked by suffering and mistreatment, evident in the visible scars on his body.
Fortunately, volunteers from an NGO found this gentle 11-year-old cat. Not only was he blind and living with feline immunodeficiency syndrome, but he had also lost many of his teeth, and the few he had left were broken.
When Wilson was rescued, his health condition was critical. This noble feline was hovering between life and death. Once he arrived at the shelter in the city of Salto de Pirapora, in the state of São Paulo, he received all the medical care he needed to regain his health.
Fortunately, Bárbara Teixeira arrived at the shelter looking for a kitten, as she had done on other occasions—and she fell in love with Wilson.
Bárbara adopted him and took him home to give him a place where he could spend his golden years surrounded by love.
The shelter staff were concerned because Wilson’s adoption would not be easy, given the time and dedication required to care for an older, blind, and ill cat.
In fact, as part of the adoption paperwork, Bárbara had to sign a responsibility agreement, legally committing herself to Wilson’s health and life.
It was also necessary to evaluate the conditions of Bárbara’s home to ensure Wilson could adapt properly to his new environment.
Thanks to Bárbara, Wilson avoided remaining at the shelter without being chosen, while many younger, one-year-old kittens were also waiting for a home.
In the end, everything turned out just as Bárbara hoped. On her Instagram account, she has shared the story of this blind kitten and his two other feline siblings.
Bárbara loves her three sweet and adorable pets, and they all live happily together. Every day, these three cats receive affection, cuddles, and delicious meals, which they enjoy and thank her for with tender looks.
